CheaperGen vs PiAPI

PiAPI Alternative

Independent comparison · Not affiliated with or endorsed by PiAPI.

For developers who use PiAPI for Seedance, Kling or Seedream and want the labs' official video and image models below list price, through one API, an MCP server and a Studio. If you rely on PiAPI's bring-your-own-account mode or its Midjourney and audio APIs, it may still fit you better.

Who it's for

CheaperGen or PiAPI?

PiAPI is a unified task API for about 90 video, image, audio, 3D and language models, with optional monthly plans and a mode for using your own accounts. CheaperGen is narrower on purpose: the labs' video and image models, below their list price, through one API. Here's an honest take on when each fits.

Choose CheaperGen if

  • You run Seedance 2.0, Kling 3.0 and Seedance 2.5 or other models in the table below and want the same models for less.
  • You want a hosted MCP server, with nothing to install or run.[1]
  • You want every feature on pay as you go, without a monthly plan.[2][3]

Stay with PiAPI if

  • You want to connect your own Midjourney, Kling or Luma accounts (its host-your-account mode).[4]
  • You use models we don't offer, such as Midjourney, music (Udio) or 3D (Trellis).[5]
  • You pay in USDT: it adds 5–15% bonus credits on top-ups from $1,000.[6]
  • You like one task request shape for every model, including its language and audio APIs.[7]

How the prices are lower

The same models, lower prices — here's how

No smaller models and no hidden fees: three things on our side.

01

Official partnerships

Direct partnerships with the official model labs give us their best partner pricing on their official models.

02

Our own GPU inference

For open-source models, our own GPU inference — optimized kernels, warm pools and per-model tuning — makes generation several times faster and lowers the cost further.

03

Automatic routing

Every request is routed automatically to fast, cost-effective capacity, with live health checks and failover.

Migration guide

Move from PiAPI in four steps

The same request on both platforms. Only the URL, the auth header and a few field names change.

  1. 01

    Create a key

Sign in, create an API key in the dashboard and add credits.

  2. 02

    Change the endpoint

POST to /api/v1/run/{endpoint} with Authorization: Bearer.

  3. 03

    Map the inputs

Fields are flat in the body. Each model's API page has its JSON Schema.

  4. 04

    Read the result

Poll GET /api/v1/generations/{id} or pass webhook_url.

FAQ

PiAPI Alternative questions

On the 8 models compared here, yes — and PiAPI isn't cheaper at any tier both platforms list for them. For example, Seedance 2.0 at 720p is $0.1356/s here against $0.20/s on PiAPI (32% lower). PiAPI's prices are from its public pages on October 22, 2026; ours are live. We only list models where we're lower, so check PiAPI's pricing for models not shown.

Yes — the labs' official models (Seedance, Kling, Veo, Wan, MiniMax, FLUX, Nano Banana and more), not look-alikes or smaller versions. The lower price comes from direct partnerships with the labs, our own GPU inference for open-source models and automatic routing. Accelerated builds of open-weight models are labelled as such.

Usually an afternoon: create a key, point your requests at POST /api/v1/run/{endpoint} with a Bearer token, map the input fields (the schema is on each model's API page) and read the result by polling GET /api/v1/generations/{id} or with a webhook. The migration guide above shows the same request on both.

No. The price is held from your balance when you submit and returned in full if the generation fails, or if you cancel it while it's still queued. Credits never expire and work across the API, the MCP server and the Studio.

No. Every feature works on pay as you go from prepaid credits that never expire. Optional monthly plans only add credits and lower prices for steady volume — see pricing.

Yes — a remote MCP server with OAuth sign-in, nothing to install or run. Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Codex and other MCP clients connect with its URL. See MCP server.

Yes. Many teams use more than one platform — for example PiAPI for Midjourney and its bring-your-own-account mode, and CheaperGen for the video and image models where it costs less. There's no subscription or commitment: you pay per second of video or per image.
