CheaperGen vs Replicate

Replicate Alternative

Independent comparison · Not affiliated with or endorsed by Replicate.

For developers who run official video and image models on Replicate — Seedance, Kling, Veo, Wan, FLUX, Nano Banana — and want the same models for less. CheaperGen runs them below list price through one API, an MCP server and a Studio. If you fine-tune, push your own models with Cog or rely on community models, Replicate remains the better fit.

Who it's for

CheaperGen or Replicate?

Replicate is a platform to run, fine-tune and deploy open-source and custom models, with thousands of community models and more than 100 official ones. CheaperGen is narrower on purpose: the labs' video and image models, below their list price, through one API. Here's an honest take on when each fits.

Choose CheaperGen if

  • You run Seedance 2.0, Kling 3.0 and Veo 3.1 or other models in the table below and want the same models for less.
  • You want API outputs to stay downloadable for a day by default.[1]
  • You want prepaid credits that never expire.[2]

Stay with Replicate if

  • You fine-tune models, or package and deploy your own with Cog.[3]
  • You use community models beyond the official ones.[3]
  • You want a synchronous call: Prefer: wait holds the request open for up to 60 seconds.[4]
  • You need high request rates: 600 prediction creates per minute.[5]

Only models where CheaperGen is lower are listed, and only when Replicate isn't cheaper at any tier both publish. Replicate: its public pages, October 21, 2026; ours are live. Video at 16:9. Prices change — check before you buy.

“Official” is the lab's own API price for the model; open-weights models have none.

Rows marked “open weights” are open-weights models: the same released weights, not a lab's API.

How the prices are lower

The same models, lower prices — here's how

No smaller models and no hidden fees: three things on our side.

01

Official partnerships

Direct partnerships with the official model labs give us their best partner pricing on their official models.

02

Our own GPU inference

For open-source models, our own GPU inference — optimized kernels, warm pools and per-model tuning — makes generation several times faster and lowers the cost further.

03

Automatic routing

Every request is routed automatically to fast, cost-effective capacity, with live health checks and failover.

Migration guide

Move from Replicate in four steps

The same request on both platforms. Only the URL, the auth header and a few field names change.

  1. 01

    Create a key

Sign in, create an API key in the dashboard and add credits.

  2. 02

    Change the endpoint

POST to /api/v1/run/{endpoint} with Authorization: Bearer.

  3. 03

    Map the inputs

Fields are flat in the body. Each model's API page has its JSON Schema.

  4. 04

    Read the result

Poll GET /api/v1/generations/{id} or pass webhook_url.

FAQ

Replicate Alternative questions

On the 30 models compared here, yes — and Replicate isn't cheaper at any tier both platforms list for them. For example, Seedance 2.0 at 720p is $0.1356/s here against $0.18/s on Replicate (25% lower). Replicate's prices are from its public pages on October 21, 2026; ours are live. We only list models where we're lower, so check Replicate's pricing for models not shown.

Yes — the labs' official models (Seedance, Kling, Veo, Wan, MiniMax, FLUX, Nano Banana and more), not look-alikes or smaller versions, and for open-weights models (FLUX.2 [klein] 4B and LTX-2.5) the same released weights. The lower price comes from direct partnerships with the labs, our own GPU inference for open-source models and automatic routing. Accelerated builds of open-weight models are labelled as such.

Usually an afternoon: create a key, point your requests at POST /api/v1/run/{endpoint} with a Bearer token, map the input fields (the schema is on each model's API page) and read the result by polling GET /api/v1/generations/{id} or with a webhook. The migration guide above shows the same request on both.

No. The price is held from your balance when you submit and returned in full if the generation fails, or if you cancel it while it's still queued. Credits never expire and work across the API, the MCP server and the Studio.

API generations are kept for 1 day by default, then deleted with their prompt and inputs. You can ask for 1 hour or immediate deletion per request, and Enterprise accounts can keep them 7 or 30 days. See data retention.

No. CheaperGen runs the labs' official models and labelled accelerated builds of open-weight models. For fine-tuning or custom models, Replicate is the better fit.

Yes. Many teams use more than one platform — for example Replicate for fine-tuning and community models, and CheaperGen for the video and image models where it costs less. There's no subscription or commitment: you pay per second of video or per image.
